Gordon District Young Leaders

The Young Leader scheme is an ongoing programme of training, designed to enable Young Leaders to work effectively in the Section that they choose. Explorer Scouts aged between 14 to 18 years can become Young Leaders. They can help in the Beaver Scout, Cub Scout, and Scout Sections.

Gordon District has a very large number of young people active in the Young Leader Scheme. Regular trainings are held across the district which all Young Leaders and leaders are welcome to attend. All trainings are listed on the District Web Site.

Further help and information can be provided by the Gordon District ESYL. This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

Any young person between 14 and 18 can be a Young Leader.

  • They will probably be Explorer Scouts who take part in the Balanced Programme provided by Gordon District
  • They may be from Girlguiding UK
  • They may be working towards their DofE programme with another organization.
  • They may just wish to be a Young Leader and not take part in the rest of the Explorer Scout programme.

All Young Leaders are members of the District Young Leaders Unit. Young Leaders between 14 and 18 have to be registered with the Gordon District Young Leader Unit and complete the Module A training unit within three months of becoming a Young Leader, there are no exceptions. Further modules can be completed but are not compulsory.

Explorer Scouts become Young Leaders to:

  • gain the knowledge, skills and confidence required to become an effective Leader
  • further their own personal development
  • work towards other Awards for example Duke of Edinburgh
  • acquire the skills that are needed for the Adult Training Scheme
  • have fun!
