Cub Camp - Battle of Harlaw
On 4th June 2011, nearly six hundred years to the day after the original battle of Harlaw, a plucky band of Aberdonians once again fought off an invading army from Inverness.

This time the battlefield was situated on the Haddo estate. Eighty-four Cubs from Daviot and Oldmeldrum, Balmedie, Newmachar, Ellon and Newburgh joined together for a weekend's camping.
The Saturday was spent preparing for the battle: forging foam swords and cardboard helmets in the smithy, making and decorating sword belts and leine croich, building up their fitness on the assault course or practicing the medieval arts of archery, jousting and firing a trebuchet. Some, dabbling in the mysterious art of alchemy, managed to make pure Green. After a hearty banquet of spit-roasted pig, the two armies assembled on the battle field in the early evening sun. It was a close run, chaotic affair but Aberdeen managed to just grasp the upper hand. The weary soldiers trudged from the field to gather around the fire where, unfortunately, the yella canary eluded us once more.
